Well, we were on a pretty good stretch of being seizure-free here but she just had another one. This one was relatively mild in comparison to some she's had.

I'm just not sure keeping her going is the right thing to do. She's pretty frail & pretty doped up all the time. She eats well (too well) but is slowly losing weight. She's not emaciated but she's getting very thin.

Sorry to hear she's had another, how is she feeling now?

Is she still enjoying life? It's horrible getting to this stage.

She's still in the zombie state. She'll shake that off & eat voraciously before sleeping the rest of the day. I can't really say she's enjoying anything but her food as she's pretty groggy & sleeps most of the time. She's never been a very social cat but other than screaming at people to get her food, she'd rather everybody just leave her alone.

I can't really say she's in any distress other than during & directly after the seizures but she's losing condition & becoming thinner regardless of her voracious appetite. The last one was April 25 so there's plenty of time between them (with the heavy sedatives).

Her ideal show weight was about 7.8#. She's under 5# now & it feels like she's getting closer & closer to 4# by the day. Years ago, she ate lots of dry food plus less than one 3oz. can. Now, she eats three 6oz. cans & sometimes four 6oz cans. She's not withering away due to lack of food. The quality of her food is lots lower now though (she refuses almost everything else & won't eat raw or fresh cooked meals) but she's getting more than enough calories.

Old age really sucks & having her in this constant state of sedative drunkenness just doesn't seem fair.

Scratch that post-seizure zombie state thing. As soon as I hit the submit button, she waddled in her & screamed big for a fresh can of cat food. So, off I go to feed the 'starving' cat. So, she's just now shaken it off & wants her food RIGHT NOW.

Glad she is feeling better....always seems to work that way, when you question if they have quality of life they must sence something and jump to life. Now if only you could dope up Granny.....

She just had her 2nd seizure of the day. Sigh, she's back in zombie mode.

What are you going to do now?Is she suffering and in pain when she has them? How old is rendezbleu?

I don't know. She's fine when she's seizure-free but she's on a very high dose of barbituates so she's wobbly, groggy or asleep when she's not eating. I don't believe there is any pain involved as long as she's prevented from bashing her head into things during the seizure itself. She's 16.

Honestly Jeanne, to me it doesn't sound like she is suffering. I don't own cats but Rendezbleu sounds like most cats to me....eat, sleep....leave me alone! If her seizures become more frequent then I would think the kindest thing would be to let her go...but for now she is probably just going through a tough couple of days and will be back to normal soon. {{{HUGS}}} If you have to question if it's "that time"...it's not.

She just had a 3rd seizure within 24 hours. I just got back from the vet's office.

She's not suffering now & won't have to wither away her final days.

Rest well, Rendezbleu.

Thanks for all the kind words & support through her ending days. I'm not really up to discussing it at the moment.
